THESE ARE THE MOST FUEL-EFFICIENT CARS, PER CONSUMER REPORTS

As gas prices remain high and scientists call for for efficient vehicles in light of the climate crisis, finding cars that use less, or no, gas has never been more important.

Consumer Reports, an American non-profit consumer organization, analyzed and tested autos that achieve at least 40 miles per gallon in combined city and highway driving.

Honda Accord Hybrid

The Honda Accord Hybrid stood out to reviewers as a reliable and efficient midsize sedan.

The Accord got a combined fuel economy of 40 miles per gallon, with city and highway ratings of 34 mpg and 45 mpg, respectively.

Lexus ES Hybrid

The Lexus ES Hybrid is a luxury midsize sedan. According to Consumer Reports, the ES Hybrid achieved a combined 42 miles per gallon—32 mpg in city driving and 52 mpg on the highway.

Equipped with a 2.5-liter inline-four engine paired with an electric motor, the ES Hybrid offers premium materials and a suite of features, including a high-resolution infotainment system and driver-assistance technologies.

Toyota Crown

The Toyota Crown is a distinctive hybrid sedan that achieved a combined 42 miles per gallon, with 33 mpg in city driving and 49 mpg on the highway according to Consumer Reports.

Built with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, the Toyota Crown is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain. Inside, the cabin has a modern design with high-quality materials, an intuitive infotainment system and spacious seating.

Toyota Prius Prime

The Toyota Prius Prime is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that combines excellent fuel economy with the flexibility of short-range electric-only driving. The Prius Prime gets a combined fuel economy of 43 miles per gallon in addition to electric range.

The Prius Prime is equipped with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. This setup allows the vehicle to transition between gas and electric modes.

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is an efficient midsize sedan achieves a combined fuel economy of 44 miles per gallon, with ratings of 36 mpg in city driving and 51 mpg on the highway.

Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor, the Sonata Hybrid includes an available solar roof, which can help extend electric range by harnessing energy from the sun.

Kia Niro PHEV

The Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is an eco-friendly compact crossover.

According to Consumer Reports, the Niro PHEV achieved a combined fuel economy of 47 miles per gallon, with 38 mpg in city driving and 54 mpg on the highway. Its plug-in capability adds the flexibility of electric-only driving for short distances.

The Niro PHEV offers regenerative braking and smooth transitions between gas and electric power, and it's by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor paired with a lithium-ion battery pack.
