The IIHS has been hard at work crash-testing vehicles for the 2024 model year, and Hyundai is happy to announce its vehicles have received more Top Safety Picks than any other with a total of nine vehicles nabbing the coveted rating. They include sedans, crossovers, EVs, and even a pickup truck, showing that the brand understands how to make a safe vehicle, no matter the design requirements.
“As Hyundai continues to sustain leadership in the IIHS TSP award designations, we are proud to have two additional products awarded including the new 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe mid-size SUV and new 2024 Hyundai Sonata sedan,” said Cole Stutz, chief safety officer, Hyundai Motor North America. “At Hyundai, we are committed to providing safe vehicles to protect customers and other vulnerable road users.”
The following list shows every Hyundai that earned a Top Safety Pick rating.
Of the nine vehicles that received an award, the Ioniq 6, Ioniq 5, and Kona - all received the highest Top Safety Pick+ rating. The Ioniq 5 earned the best score of all thanks to advancements made with rear occupant safety. Coming in just behind Hyundai for total number of awrds is Toyota with eight vehicles followed by Genesis with six vehicles.
For 2024, the IIHS made the tests more difficult to encourage automakers to spend money to continue making their vehicles safer. The updated criteria demand better protection for backseat passengers and improved pedestrian crash avoidance systems.
At Hyundai, we are committed to providing safe vehicles to protect customers and other vulnerable road users. - Cole Stutz, chief safety officer, Hyundai Motor North America.
Qualifying vehicles must earn a good rating in the small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and updated side tests to be a Top Safety Pick. Moving up to Top Safety Pick+ requires good ratings in the small overlap front and updated side tests as well as an acceptable or better rating for the updated moderate front crash test.
